    Bold and beautiful
I love this album and have always thought it was underrated in the Hendrix canon and oftern overlooked. I used to have this album on a cassette that is probably in a forgotten corner of my flat somewhere but am delighted to have it on CD now. The music is highly evocative of a bygone era and yet strangely futuristic at the same time. It does include some hippy-dippy nonsense but also two of Hendrix's finest balads - the very well known 'Little Wing' and the lesser known yet lovelier - 'Bold as Love' which has a wonderful drum/phaser solo near the end that ALWAYS makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up - absolutely gorgeous.

Excuse me a minute, just let me play my guitar
I searched, found and bought this CD on a whim. I have many Hendrix compilation albums and two of the studio ones on CD but my all-time favourite track is the live version of 'Like a Rolling Stone'. I have only had this one on vinyl for the last 20 years and had a sudden urge to hear it and so I bought the whole Monterey gig for it. There are some fabulous other tracks on here too, particularly a raw and passionate version of 'Hey Joe' and a sweet as honey rendition of 'The Wind Cries Mary', that shows off the very sensitive nature of Jimi's voice when called for. The pleasant surprise of this CD is the little snatches of dialogue between the songs that indicate the Hendrix is a very young and playful man, having the time of his life, enjoying every second and it is heartbreaking to think that within a few short years, he would die so young. The sound quality throughout is at best, average. This must be put into context though with the quality of amplification and recording available at the time (1967 for heavens sake!. All in all there are better live versions of these songs on other CDs - the album 'Voodoo Child' contains many - with the exception of the aforementioned three but I am a Hendrix nut and this CD makes me smile whenever I play it.

Zappa at his most bitingly satirical
I have had this album for years on vinyl but I don't have a record player at the moment. I was delighted to find that although I hadn't heard it for a few years, it still sounds as fresh as if it were recorded yesterday. Frank Zappa and his very tight and talented band serve up a musical maelstrom of satirical comments on late 20th century life in suburban America that is both hilarious and thought provoking. I laughed, I cried, I turned the volume up to VERY LOUD!
