Pentax P30 Film Camera
3 of 3 found this helpful This was my second 35 mm slr after selling my first, a minolta XG2, to pay for the bond on a flat. I found it at a car boot sale and took a chance on it including the 2 lens it came with. 1 was a standard 50mm the other a 70 - 200 zoom. I added a wide-angle lens and a dedicated flash and got into enjoying photography all over again. The P30 is an excellent camera for those that like to be in control of what they take. It does have Auto Exposure for those that prefer to just set the aperature to control the depth of field. But I usually chose to keep mine set in manual. I used this camera as my only one for over 20 years and its never let me down. Very solidly built and just feels right in the hands. You know your holding something made to last. It makes a good starting camera for anyone wanting to start and learn a little, rather than just point and click. Also with Pentax k probably having the widest choice in lenses I think I made the right choice at the car boot sale.

1 of 1 found this helpful A lovely little camera that can easily be bought on Ebay as a bargain. Very light but better made than it might feel to some. Even though its a little smaller than im used to its still very comfy to use. Once you sit down with the manual for a few minutes its very easy to just pic up and take photos , even after never using 1 with so many different modes before. But you can still go back to manual if you prefer to be more in control of what you take. Its a must to have 1 or 2 AF lenses though, just to take advantage of the automatic focusing, which is what this camera ia mainly made for, as most of the newer models are. But even with "A" lenses it still provides Aperature Priority, where you set the aperature and the camera sets the speed for you.I'm Still getting used to it but From what I've found so far I think you have to have a lens with at least an "A" setting even if you wish to use in manual mode. When I've tried lenses without "A" it wouldnt let me do anything. If you are taking photos quite close to your subject there is the pop-up flash that saves you having to fit one to the hot shoe, but you will still need another for those times when you need more light if your subject is further away or if theres not enough light for the pop-up. A good addition to my camera collection at a bargain price.

Great Pentax film slr
1 of 1 found this helpful My first Pentax slr was a P30 that I bought at a car boot and it is still going strong after 20 years. But I have recently bought a Pentax ME super and find it even better. Smaller, lighter and more choice on the speeds. Also fast sync speed with flash. I also like that if the batteries run out you can still use it at a decent speed. It makes for a very compact easy to use strongly built slr for us that still like to use film. I did buy a second but only because of the lens and have decided to sell 1 of them as a body only. The problem is that both are in excellent condition so it is difficult to decide which is the best to keep. I have heard there is sometimes a problem with a loose winder so I've checked both for that but still no luck in helping me decide. They just made the things too good. I may end up keeping it for a spare. Also I have heard that with a camera this age and me not knowing their history it would be a good idea to get a set of new seals for them so I have ordered them just to keep in case needed, but from what I've seen they look to be still in good condition too.I wonder why they bothered making other cheaper made less reliable models after the ME Super. But then again, I'm still keeping my eyes open for a reasonably priced MX or better still a LX, but the LX are still a bit too pricey. OH Well!
