More crime than punishment.
This book fails as an autobiography of the title's character, it is more crime than punishment - a protracted catalogue of violent murders that brought the culprits to Harry's gallows. Whilst there are some details of his private life it is but a scant introduction to the character whose own thoughts and believes are largely conjecture with very few actual quotes from the man himself. With this in mind, it might be something students of criminology would want to read but not many lay people - other than those with a particular passion for murder.

Emotionally impactful.
This book may not be for everyone as it deals with violent crime, murder and the continuing debate about the death penalty and how this impacts in different ways on the friends and relatives of both victims and perpetrators. It is true. For this reason alone I have to say that this book has had the most profound emotional impact on me - perhaps more so because I am exploring this contentious subject in my own creative works.
