Good choice
I loved introducing another generation to the musical highs of my early youth - lots of golden Saturday Club memories with 'Stewpot'. It was great to giggle along with my kids to the riotous laughter of 'The Laughing Policeman', to brim with nostalgic pleasure at the absurd gripes of 'Jake the Peg, with his extra leg' and wallow in the magical wimsey of Flanders and Swan's glorious Hippopotamus song. I loved it and so did my children. It brought back the 50s and 60s as if no time had elasped between now and then. Magic!

Gripping thriller!
Well narrated story. I could follow the (slightly abridged) story without the book while outside, which made it a pleasant experience. Would recommend.

Vivid, graphic and nostalgic!
Hauntingly graphic photographs and eye-witness accounts absorb your interest on every page and return you magically and nostalgically to war-devastated Birkenhead, which suffered in the blitz just as much as other towns and cities. I finished the book in one session. An unputdownable record of the Birkenhead blitz!
