Works well but will need some configuring
There are some quirks to this particular programmer. You will need to set the jumpers to match the particular PIC you're programming. I'm not sure this is the case with the official programmer - but it's easy enough to do. Secondly, I received various warnings about the target voltage level being 4.625V. This can be changed easily in MPLAB IPE in the advanced settings. I was able to successfully program a PIC16F1459 selecting "use low voltage programming" and "vpp before vdd" and as this is my first time working with PIC - I'm very pleased.
