Great Film Scanner
3 of 3 found this helpful Don't believe the nonsense about the SCSI interface. SCSI is an advantage, not a disadvantage. SCSI has many times the data-handling capacity of USB or FireWire. SCSI controller cards are plentiful and fairly inexpensive. Modern SCSI cards come in standard PCI configuration for older PCs, and PCIe configuration for newer PCs. Data transfer rates (for hard disks) is a high as 320Mbps. Most are plug 'n play, and no more difficult to install than any add-on card.
The LS-30 is a 2700 DPI (not exactly low resolution) scanner with 30-bit color depth. The scanning speed is better than 6x faster than the FireWire LS-4000 scanner, and twice as fast as the LS-40 and LS-50 USB scanners. At 21 seconds it is only one second slower than the Nikon LS-5000 scanner which uses a double CCD sensor and costs many, many times as much. All things considered, the LS-30 tops them all in terms of price vs. performance. And there is nothing obsolete about that!
