My Home Town
Freedom on the Menu is an excellent book for my grandchildren's understanding of my life growing up in a prejudice environment. It captures the courage of the students from both A&T State and Bennett College who stood up for the right to be served like any other customer. That Woolworth's is now a beautiful museum that honors the people and their struggle.

I can identify with Ruby's story since I was one of five students to first walk on the grounds of an all white school in Greensboro, N.C. I was in the 7th Grade. It was a very painful year for me, but I survived with the aid of the choral teacher who saw my musical talent and choose to encourage and support me. Thank you Ruby for sharing your story. I also purchased this book to share with my grandchildren.
