Small size and ez on batteries !
The sound quality is OK, considering the size of the speaker, and
prices I am paying at ebay for used units.
The memory stores hours of music, talk shows, whatever.
Quality of recording depends on the capacity of the recording
you set. Therefore set to the minimum hours that you can
record, you get the best quality recording. Increasing the hours
of recording decreases the quality.

The VN-1000 is easy on batteries.
Has the same GREAT features as other Olympus VN-1000's. I have purchased several thru ebay.
The "SE" model has additional memory, which is a plus.
