Hollywood Comic Classics in Deluxe Presentation
2 of 2 found this helpful This must be the 3rd or 4th time I've seen the whole set and they are a delight every time. The bonus is including "The Egg and I" with the delightful Claudette Colbert in a comic role which started the series. Marjorie Main is everyone's Ma and grows more endearing with repeated viewings. I still find my sophisticated self bursting out in gut busting laughter at Percy Kilbride's deadpan retorts to pompous 'citizens' aiming to take him down. The reproductions are first rate and the packaging sturdy: you can't ask for more from these Hollywood comic classics!

Mesmerizing Bruckner by Celibidache and Munich
1 of 1 found this helpful Having many recordings of Bruckner's massive mature symphonies in my extensive collection I was very curious about what this somewhat reclusive conductor would bring to a composer he has been said to especially revere since encountering and mastering the original extended version of the 8th Symphony included here. Being able to see the subtle care with which he leads his beloved orchestra members through this and the rarely recorded 6th Symphony are a music lovers joy to behold. Watch the playful smiles, even smirks, as he encourages his colleagues to engage in the playfulness of Bruckner's Scherzo's in the 6th and 7th Symphonies but is all stentorian master in the explosive scherzo of the massive 8th. And his Munich Orchestra members quite obviously equally devoted to their maestro are attentive to his every nuanced gesture even as once he touches his chest to indicate 'pay attention to me here especially you remember'!
As a bonus we receive a CD of the 4th Symphony which cries out for the video version as well. I at least am on the lookout for the other Bruckner Symphonies on DVD by these dedicated musicians of great heart.

Not quite "Now Voyager" but good survey
Rather than being the extended score of the film "Now Voyager" this disc contains short suites from many of Steiner's fine film scores very well performed and recorded for modern audiences. It would be better if full-length scores were available as they are for a few of his films. But these are excellent introductions to several of his better-known ones such as King Kong, The Informer, and The Big Sleep.
