Proper headphones
1 of 1 found this helpful These Panasonic headphones look and feel like proper headphones. They also sound good - but they're not 'sound cancelling' so of-course you can still hear telephones and annoying neighbours if you're listening to quiet music. For that reason the little volume control is a handy addition. I use them with my iPod shuffle.

Still the best
I bought an iPod Nano to replace my old Shiuffle mk 2 – and I wasted my money: far too many options, and a confusing multiplicity of menus. So I put it in a drawer and I bought this Shuffle: mk 4 it has a few more options than the mk 2 ("Voiceover", which tells you at the touch of a button what track you're hearing; a smaller footprint too) but not too complicated for me. And with its iintegrated clip to secure it to your clothes (unlike the Nano) and that BIG 'pay/stop' button which you can find even without looking at it, the Shuffle is still the best.

Elegant and practical
Planning – nay, praying, for an atypically hot English summer I hunted high and low for an inexpensive, elegant and practical way to deter flies, yet one which would allow fresh air to circulate through the house. I've tried other sorts of door curtains before, but this particular one caught my eye – so I bought it – and I fell in love with it as soon as it arrived, so I bought another. In fact I would like one on every door (except maybe the bathroom). They're easy to put up over a door, the horizontal rail has a hinge in it half-way along, meaning that when the package arrived I was concerned I'd bought something far too narrow for my doors! They are made of actual bamboo, each strand tapering towards the floor; each 5cm piece of bamboo connected to the next by a little wire loop, which I assume is threaded all the way through each piece. Waving it aside with the back of your hand, you walk through, imagining yourself transported to some exotic scent-laden world of dark almond eyes silk dresses – and you hear the bamboo curtain close behind you with a light chattering chorus like summer rain. It's a very simple, yet civilised item of low-tech, non-violent bug control. To give it a minimalist spin, I had originally planned to spray paint the first one white – but I actually like their earthiness. I think I'm turning a bit hippie in my old age!
