    BEF's first victory.
49 in the campaign series by osprey, tells of the British Expeditionary Force in France August 1914.The same format is here, origins, opposing commanders, armies, and plans, followed by campaign, battle, retreat and aftermath. Never forgetting the French involement, the focus is on the BEF's exploits, with special mention of the many VC winners, and the incredible rate of fire of each British soldier. The illustrations are of a 'cartoonish' style, probable of the period, which i did not like. That being said,it was a good read.

    Hurricane 41-45
Aircraft of the aces 57,from osprey, tells the story of Hurricane fighter aces after the battle of Britain,on many fronts and fighter roles.Starting in the channel theatre it follows the Hurricane sqn's exploits in N ireland,Scotland, Russia,Malta,Greece,Cyprus,syria,west/north/east africa,India,Ceylon, and the fall of Singapore. It also mentions the sea Hurricane, and its use on catapult armed merchantmen. For me the planes use in the night intruder role was the most fascinating part, here is mentioned Flt Lt K M Kuttelwascher[hell of a name]of 1 sqn,a Czech national with a German name, who score of 18/2/5 makes him the most successful Czech pilot of WW2.A British national after the war,i find it hard to understand why i did not know of him until recently when his plane turned up as a Corgi model! Supported by 30 colour artworks, scale plans and archival photographs, this is a good read and welcome addition to my book collection.
