Difficult to sync with TV

I put in the link for the online manual twice and link not found. When shipped it was not in the original box as shown in the picture. When I tried linking the nexus to tv it was very DIFFICULT! I had to google search how to do it. Thank goodness for google. A previous review said they had to update it to the latest 8 version. I have no idea how to do that. The good news is that the device works.
