An Ideal Canopy Post Support
I researched suitable base plates for a project to replace a timber support post for my porch canopy. This item turned out to be an ideal combination of good quality against it’s very reasonable price, and it’s design was ideal for my own project, allowing easy height adjustment of the post once installed to provide exact placement, before locking in place. It is a galvanised finish, and I greased up the adjustment threads prior to installation. I now have no reason to believe it won’t last for years. An excellent product.

Why should I buy an "older" digital camera?
2 of 2 found this helpful I collect Olympus film SLR cameras from the 70's and 80's, so this could be seen as a strange buy for me. However, I decided that I would like to take my hobby into the digital era, keeping my purchase within my own "classic" camera criteria, whilst also avoiding the ultra high cost of buying "modern". I believe the Olympus C-2500L digital SLR is such a classic. It was one of the first digital SLR's to come from the company, launched around 1999 at a then retail price of around £1200! Although the lens is a quality zoom, equivalent to a 35mm-110mm as used on a film camera, and is not interchangeable, it is none the less a true SLR, with the viewfinder image coming straight through the lens. The camera is full of features that are still relevant to today's camera enthusiast and has manual, aperture priority auto, and full program modes. It also has the ability to connect a fully dedicated automatic flash gun, which would allow you to get even more creative. Storage is taken care of by Smart Media and Compact Flash Cards sat side by side within the camera body. You can choose which card to use and also copy between the two. So, what are the downsides? Firstly the camera, being early, is only 2.5 mega pixels, which by today's standards is low. But, don't let this put you off. It is still capable of producing a 10" X 8" high quality print. I believe there is also alot of sales hype surrounding the number of pixels a camera has available for use. I have heard people comparing their equipment in this respect who never even print their pictures, they are only ever viewed on the camera monitor and then discarded, or at best stored on a PC. This is certainly the case around equipment that will only be used by the hobby amateur. Secondly, the card storage device, again being early technology, is only capable of reading cards that were available at the time, such as 64mb Compact Flash. Anything bigger simply won't work. Again not a problem if you are aware of it's limits. Lastly, the camera transfers images to your computer using a serial interface, which can be extremely slow. A simple way round this is to use a USB card reader connected to the computer, having removed the card from the camera and placed it in the reader. Modern transfer speeds can be achieved in this way. In summary this camera, and others like it, providing they are in full working condition and haven't been abused, are an excellent buy. What did it cost? £49.99! What else could you buy for this money, a bargain. Research the camera system you want, read the contemporary reviews that are still available on the internet and buy your camera. You will enjoy many of the features of a modern digital camera but at a fraction of the price.
