Battery killer, filled with rain, side by side comparison, buy the Moultrie XA7000i instead
1 of 1 found this helpful First of all its a battery killer. Onboard batteries drained in a matter of days. Even drains the 12v external battery at a ridiculous rate. I have had mine up since May 2019, and bought the 12v battery in June due the onboard batteries going weekly. I had to replace the Spypoint 12v battery that came with the external case already also. I emailed them several times about it with no response. This week I went out to swap out the 12v battery again and happened to open the camera. Good thing I did because it was FULL OF WATER! Water has been in it a while because there was rust on the contacts of the internal battery cartridge.
The camera and cellular internals are on the top of the camera with batteries in a compartments at the bottom.
The camera was still working due to 12v external battery cord being plugged into upper part of the camera and not effected by onboard batteries floating in water. I removed the batteries and cartridge and cleaned/ dried it out with WD40. Cleaned rusted contacts an put back together. Its still working.
In June I bought a Moultrie XA7000i.
Much better photos, much better app, and its been running since June on the original set of Lithium AA batteries!
