The Sheffield Windmill takes off!
It was interesting to discover this CD, Joe's entire set from the Woodstock Music & Art Fair in '69. Having always been mesmerized by his performance of 'With A Little Help From My Friends' as seen on the documentary/movie of the event, I was pretty confident the rest of the CD would be in a similar vein. I was right. What you get is a passionate, foot to the floor display of Cocker's incredible blue-eyed soul. Backed by the Grease band, who are fresh out of the studio and sound extremely tight, Cocker really let's it go on tracks like 'I Don't Need No Doctor' with it's chugging rythmn and swirling organ sound, and Dylan's 'Dear Landlord' which opens his set. The band jam for long periods on some tracks, slowly building the tempo as Cocker drifts in and out on the way, before finally exploding in his passionate vocal delivery. It's the sound of a band right on top of it's game who were totally up for this gig and who weren't going to be denied. There is plenty of onstage banter from Cocker which adds a nice touch to the performance. The re-mastering is very good, clear and crisp and the CD is nicely packaged including a picture disc. Given the haphazard performances of some other major acts over that long ago weekend, this must stand out as one of the best of the entire event. If you are a fan or just curious about it - give it a listen, you won't be disappointed.

Fascinating
A must see for anyone interested in the festival. I was amazed at the amount of never before seen footage which puts you right in amongst the crowd. It's the story told from a different perspective, very well made documentary.
