Very Reliable, Great Color, Big Display
As a photoraphy enthusiast for well over 25 years mostly in 35mm and into digital for over 8 years, I have researched, read, and used several models of digital cameras. I would recommend this model, DX6490, because of it's all-around ability to perform and last. I'm not a big fan of plastic bodies, but this one has the size and weight to it that overcomes that "cheap" feeling that an "all plastic" body has. For the money, the durability, and the performance I don't believe you can beat this model in it's class. Simple straight forward menu features, easy quick fail-proof auto features, 10X zoom, and the colors...many reviewers find Kodak digital cameras to be "over saturated" in the color department, but they almost always follow that up by saying something like "it's what the masses will find the most appealing part of what it does". If you are taking pictures and you want bright vivid and well balanced colors that appeal to you and those who see them then you can't go wrong. Now if you were to enter a photo contest or want to have your work displayed in a gallery, I seriously doubt you'd even be reading this review because you'd be looking for a different class of camera. If want to impress your friends or display really great photos on your web site then this is a super choice. Combine sturdy construction, eases of use, a great price, super color, a great zoom range, and superior reliability and this model grades out the best in it's class. A fabulous all-around picture taker.

When Ease of Use is a Big priority
When simple operation and quality of pictures are the main needs you can't go wrong. Buttons, buttons, buttons, who has all the buttons? Not the Z730 and you don't need to refer to the manual either because it's all there on the screen. Just like every Digital Camera out there the first thing you have to do is turn the thing on. With the Z730 if you turn to the SCN on the dial you get this great display on the screen for a huge multitude of situations that are easy to understand. IF simple use, a small compact size, a big screen (2.5 inches) and quality pictures are your desire in a camera this moel hits the nail on the head! I have come across a lot of unhappy owners because they find their current camera too hard to understand and operate, when I explain what Kodak does with their cameras and show them they are very impressed. The focus of Kodak on the whole purpose of making brilliant colors pop out at you, gives them the final push and then they are convinced. This camera fits an exact need of many consumers, ease, size, quality, and great picture results in point and shoot that won't overwhelm you with options, controls, buttons and buttons...if you are honest about what you really want and need this is an unbeatable camera in the compact point and shoot category.

Last Non-Cheesey of the Inexpensive DSLR's
Read almost a 100 reviews, it was created and designed to compete with the Canon EOS 300D, so in this review I'll keep what it was designed to be in mind. This is the first DSLR designed to be under $1000 that wasn't a cheesey lightweight plasticized junkie bodied version of a DSLR. Yes it only has a low of 200 ISO and the Canon 300D has 100. But in side-by-side comparisons at 200 ISO the D70 has a better image. I guess there was an early bad production run, sorry if you hit that run. What it is a very sturdy build, solid and more like a DSLR should be. I have larger then average hands and longer then average fingers, not freakish just above average. I need a heavier and bigger body for my personal comfort. I love the feel of this model and I find it less distracting as a result. The look, feel, and comfort of any camera is very important to consider and especially when what you compare is fairly close in performance and image quality. I feel more confident when I handle the D70. When I feel more confident I worry less, I concentrate on things other then the feel, I don't worry "will this thing actually last?", and end up having what I feel are better results and a better time when I use my D70. I actually found myself more attached and wanting to take and use the Nikon more. (I also have an Olympus E500, my lenses for each are different though) As the price gets lower and the models newer, what I see is cheeseyness in build and construction to achieve those prices. I hate cheap, light, plasticky things. The D70 WB on auto is superior to anything I've ever used, the focusing is superior to anything I've ever used, and the metering is superior to anything I've used. When I combine the build, the feel, and these 3 factors here...I have a camera that is a bench mark in my mind. I do tend to "tweak" my shots for a tad bit more of color and there are places you can find on the Internet that provide some tips and tricks but overall the D70 is my mainstay, even at 6 megs. Canons in this class or range, don't compete and since I don't go out to take pictures of "charts" that stuff means nothing to me, just like cheap flimsy lightweight plastic 'cheesers' that flub focusing, WB, and metering and then dissolve. Clean your sensor yet? I haven't because I have no need to like a Canon dust owner will.
