Fully featured, fast and reliable with an excellent camera and screen
It's a great phone with an excellent camera (and a bright flash). I immediately upgraded to Android 4 ICS using Samsung's update software and it went through without a hitch.
Battery life is certainly better than my previous phone (the Sony Ericsson Experia X10) but being a Smartphone it ideally wants charging every day. Battery life can however be extended if you set it to only use the 2G network (it's the constant switching between 2G and 3G that drains that battery so much).
The screen is amazing - being an AMOLED display there's no backlight as every pixel is lit individually. This must save on battery power, but the real advantage is the brightness - the screen is incredibly bright and clear.
The multi-touch screen is very responsive and easy to use, and it'll happily detect all 10 fingers and thumbs.
The built in GPS quickly finds a signal and holds on to it. The magnetometer seems to be very accurate and makes a good compass, and the motion/tilt sensors are spot on every time.
The phone also has a proximity detector, so it knows if it's in your pocket, or turned on it's face.
Security wise, if you upgrade to ICS not only will you have pattern and PIN recognition, but also face recognition (with a pattern as a backup in low light levels).
The phone came with a range of software; Google apps such as Google Navigator and the Play Store (formally Google Market), Samsung's voice activation software that allows you to make calls/send texts/search the Internet purely by voice command, and Polaris Office (capable of reading and writing Office 97/XP/2003 and 2007 documents).
All in all I find it hard to fault this phone. Battery life is my biggest gripe, but it's no different to other powerful phones, and as I said it certainly fairs better than my last phone. My other gripe is the lack of a camera button (although the camera icon on screen loads the app quickly enough) and the lack of a notification LED. This can be remedied by using NoLED (available free on the Play Store) that uses the AMOLED display as an indicator (remember, only lit pixels are powered, not the whole screen so it uses very little power).

Works perfectly with my homebrew computer
Popped one into my EEPROM programmer as soon as they arrived and tested. Worked perfectly. Good to see it had been tested before sending as well.
