Logistical tasks cracked with this database - ditch spreadsheets!
Suppose you are a teacher and have 300 pupils to organise for a day's activity in 30 groups - with 2 or 3 teachers accompanying each group - with activity details to record such as venue, tasks, equipment, timings, locations, and each pupil has age, sex, house, etc... How do you do it? With a spreadsheet - well you could but it would be cumbersome and unwieldy, and produce unattractive dense looking reports and print outs. A database is your answer. Takes a while to get your head around it but it pays you back ten-fold for the effort. You can generate incredibly looking reports in an infinite variety of configurations - using layouts you design. It is powerful and effective and makes a logistical task easy. Don't spend £250 on the latest version. Go back a couple of releases and you need only pay £60-£80 and loose nothing in power. The extras are just cosmetic and only relevent for professional regular users. There is nothing like Filemaker on the market for this sort of task. Cut loose from Excel or Numbers and go for it!

Excellent... but could be even better...
Great product. Not totally automatic when it comes to using Mac OS Time Machine as it needs to be manually mounted after Restart, but otherwise does a great job of supporting back ups on your Mac.
