Good Model at a good price.
This is a waterline model of the American battlecruiser/heavy cruiser the USS Alaska, a rare model that has been - together with its sister ship USS Guam - hard to get hold of. It weighed in at about 30,000 tons, with a speed of 33 knots an hour; a bit like the German battlecruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau; and sported the like kind of main of armament, nine twelve-inch guns. Its main kind of superiority over these German counterparts was its anti-aircraft defences. But there was some doubt about its underwater protection against torpedoes, which is why some classified the USS Alaska as a heavy cruiser rather than a battlecruiser; a classification which I disagree with. It also came into the war rather late, in 1944. But it is a great model to have: well-made, not too complex, and with clear instructions. I shall enjoy launching it against my growing model Imperial Japanese Navy! And we will see who wins.

High-Quality Quick-Build Model
This is an excellent and well-wrought military model of Germany's most numerous battle tank of World War Two, the Panzer IV.
It comes with three models and the ability to make all of them in three versions, with options for crew and open or closed hatches, short gunned and long-gunned, and with side shirts or no.
The detail is first-rate and better than that of the old Matchbox models; scale is also slightly larger too.
The tank tracks are in hard plastic and are especially realistic, showing the lagging that is common at the top of them.
If you spend time painting the model as you assemble it, you will come out with a first-rate collector's piece.
The only drawback, if that is one, is that there are no decals: so what I do is paint them on myself - which needs a good eye, fine brushes, some practice and a steady set of hands; skills which, with practise, I am developing!

Large Scale Lightweight.
This is quite a large scale model for a 1950s-1960s United States naval ship: the more usual scale would be about 1:600 or smaller, say 1: 700 rather than 1:500; and so the model does not sit well with other models of ships from the same era. The detail is also not as good as we would be used to on other models. However, it does fill a gap in the market, and for that reason I am glad that I got it.
