    Such a loss
I still remember when I heard that Eric Carr had died. I was living in the US at the time and was flicking through the Milwaukee Journal. I saw a picture of Eric. Then I realised that I was on the obituary page. Eric Carr was arguably the most talented member of Kiss. A great drummer with a fantastic rock voice. After joining the band he taught himself to play bass, guitar and keyboards in order to contribute as a song writer. But Stanley and Simmons said no. As a result we never really heard the range of Eric's talent when he was alive. Through this CD Bruce Kulick tries to redress the balance. A mixture of completed songs and instrumental demos, the disk shows what both the band and the fans missed out on. Amongst the five complete songs are a few great numbers. Eyes of Love, Too Cool for School and Tiara are at least equal to anything Kiss put out at the time. Great hooks and some driving riffs. Of the the incomplete songs the Van Halenesque You Make Me Crazy would have sounded great both on disk and live. OK, there are a few corny lyrics and Can You Feel It is a slightly cringeworthy slice of AOR cheese. But, hey, this was the late '80's. Just listen and imagine how much better records like Crazy Nights or Hot in the Shade would have been if a couple of these tracks had been included.

Should have been a much bigger hit.
Best Kinks album in years. Crisp production and some fabulous tunes. Some powerful rockers (drift away), classic Ray Davies character pieces (Did ya), the truly emotive Scattered and the hilarious Hatred. . Certainly better than Bridges to Babylon or Endless Wire. Deserved to be a much bigger hit than it was.
