Perfect Solution
The shipment arrived within a few days. You will need to have the key cut at a locksmith, since most home improvement stores won't do it. But that only cost $5! I followed the simple instructions included and it worked perfectly. It seems that the Valet Key (mine had a grey plastic handle) will not work for the programming procedure. You need an original ignition key with the black plastic handle.

Good product, sensor could be more weather resistant.
I purchased the WS-9002U primarily to get the replacement TX6U sensor which I use for other La Crosse thermometers I've had for 10+ years. The TX6U has a relatively short life span because it really isn't well suited for an outdoor environment. I know that sounds crazy considering its primary use!
Most of them just stop working after a year or two, and when I open them up to see why, I see corrosion and discoloration around the components on the printed circuit board - probably due to humidity.
But, the last one started reading temperatures about 10-15 degrees higher at 90 degrees F, although it read pretty accurately near 70 degrees F. Strange behavior, for sure.
Although I have always mounted the TX6U in a protected outdoor spot, it's just a matter of how well protected it really is: the more protected, the longer the TX6U will last.
One trick I find helpful is to seal up the seams of the battery cover with clear plastic shipping tape to keep moisture out,

Great technology, but OK reliability
LaCrosse makes a bewildering array of weather monitoring products - probably several thousand different models - all based on their core technology. I have owned at least a dozen of these during the last 15 years or so, and they are quite accurate and work quite well - at least for a while.
My major complaint is the reliability of the outdoor sensors, which usually stop working after about two years, regardless of how or where they are mounted and shielded from the elements. Upon opening up the sensors to see what's wrong, I find specs of corrosion or deposits around the battery terminals. Upon cracking open the plastic case, I also find these whitish deposits on the surface of the circuit board inside the unit. No amount of cleaning has ever made the unit work again.
So, now you are stuck with an indoor receiver unit that works fine, and no sensor. Buying a new sensor is quite expensive, often as much as the whole system. And to make matters worse, LaCrosse uses specific transmission codes that prevents a different model sensor from working with the orphaned receiver.
It would be great if LaCrosse could make a sensor that was actually sealed against the environment it is intended to work in!
