Audio and reboot problems
8 of 8 found this helpful This is a very good TV for the price if you can get one that does have bugs.
I suspect that a section of serial numbers had defective electronics.
Symptoms are:
1. Sound is muted when TV is first turned on (even though the mute symbol is not displayed).
2. Sound and picture intermittently stutter (cut in and out).
3. TV reboots itself and resets all settings back to factory settings.
Those are the problems I had with my original TV and I returned it.
The serial number for that TV was LTLNIBCL4208713
I returned that TV to Sam's Club and looked at all the serial numbers on the boxes before picking out a new one. All of the serial numbers were very close to the defective one that I returned. But the box on the bottom of the stack had a higher serial number than all the rest and I grabbed it.
No problems so far with the new set. The serial number of the new one is LTLNIBCL4407995
That set was built almost 20,000 TV's later than the defective one.
Other NOTES:
The factory settings on this TV are horrible.
The sound is set to SRS surround sound and automatic volume control.
You need to turn both of those off because the sound levels are very bad. Commercials blast you out of the room and when the movie comes back on you can't hear what they are sayint.
The default picture setting is the HOME setting. There is also a RETAIL setting and some other settings.
The default HOME setting is a totally washed out picture.
If you change it to the RETAIL setting, it is much better but then the colors are over-saturated.
Also, Smooth motion is ON by default and you get sea sick watching anything move. They call this the Soap Opera Effect. It sucks.
Fortunately, it lets you set your own custom settings. Here is what I did and the picture is perfect:
Picture Mode: Custom
Backlight: 70
Brightness: 49
Contrast: 59
Color: 48
Tint: 2
Sharpness: 3
Noise Reduction: off
Color enhancement: On
Advanced Adaptive Lumia: On
Color Temperature: PC
Red: 51
Green: 48
Blue: 50
Smooth Motion Effect: Off
DCR: Off
SRS True Surround off
SRS True Volume off
Ambient light sensor Off
SUMMARY: If you can get one of these TV's that are not one of the defective ones, They are well worth the money after you set the custom settings.
