    Cyberpunk 2077 (Sony PlayStation 4, 2020)
    22 Jul, 2023
If you like Blade Runner you're gonna love this.
Cyberpunk 2077 is easily one of the best games I've played in a long time. Predominantly a first-person shooter, set in a dystopian future with plethora of technology to aid you in hacking into the various computerised systems of your enemies. Plot has some great twists and turns, with a certain very famous person lending their talents. Controls are generally pretty good, though the sprint button (L3 on the PS4) feels choppy and is unreliable. For that reason alone it would be nice to be able to re-map the buttons, but no such luck yet. The frame rate isn't always great, unless you're running a HDTV with a ps4 pro. Luckily frame drop doesn't spoil things too much. Graphically the attention to detail, draw distance and moody atmosphere are all present and impressive, although the streets of Night City sometimes feel sparsely populated which is a pity. Influences on the game include GTA, Portal and the Matrix, though most obvious is Blade Runner as a genre pulling Night City forward from an even more grimdark future. Cyber feels quite big as an open-world, without being overwhelming. Dialogue is intelligent, complex and fits well with the imagined changes in common use of terms, "Eddies" meaning ready cash, for example. Options to choose a variety of responses have yet to affect plot, but I'm still on my first playthrough so we will see. The diverse culture and history of Night City are all there in exemplary condition. There are lots of sidequests of different types, plenty of optional missions, and a variety of play styles available to suit your approach. The learning curve is pitched just right, and there's lots of skills, a nice pace of character growth, good advancement mechanics and plenty of crafting options for abilities, utilities and gear. The variety of weapons opens up to include all kinds of fun ways to blast your enemies, and includes a wide range of guns, grenades, blades and more. Close quarter combat is also well catered for, though can sometimes feel chaotic and choppy without the option to play in third-person view. The option to fashion your character with body-mods and a huge choice of clothing adds to the sense of personal investment. At around £20-25, great value overall.

    Thorough
A deep dive into the history of Astrology, this account is detailed, fully annotated and presents some valuable findings as well as insightful techniques to enrich your practice. Not for novices, however, it does a great job of describing where Chris Brennan is coming from. His extremely articulate approach is as a virtuoso of research.

    Brilliant!
Brilliant fun, incredible level of depth, i love being able to create my own games within Dreams. Newcomers and veterans of Media Molecule's Little Big Planet will have a great time. Once you get used to moving about in 3D space - which took me an hour or two - you'll soon be imagining and building virtual oddities, plus the number of tutorials in the game is great.
