A feel good movie that best portrays the spirit of the season.
This is one of those little known jewels of a movie made in 1940 when movies were a central part of the nation's entertainment.
The emotional backdrop of the story is well-supported by some of the best character actors of the time. Harry Carey, Charles Winniger, C.Audrey Smith are three you will immediately recognize even if you don't remember their names. You'll recognize Carey from the many cowboy movies he made and Smith from Shirley Temple movies.
This movie has a strong emotional subject with a spiritual background that doesn't get preachy - just kindness and a sort of noble righteousness. It's feel good right to the core.

Not for the uninformed!
This version of Little Women is for aficionados of Louisa May Alcott's book - the type of followers who have seen every film rendition and know the characters so well that they can quote lines from the book and the movies.
It is NOT for those who are unfamiliar or vaguely familiar with the book - simply because the director's choice to jump all over the timeline of the novel will confuse anyone unfamiliar with the characters, In fact - lacking background knowledge of the book and past films - you would be in a fog and (I'll bet) will leave the room to get a beer, some popcorn, make a phone call, and read the sports page - before going back to the living room to pretend to be interested.

Goin' South is unquestionably one of the best comedies executed by seasoned, talented artists. Jack Nicholson and Mary Steenburgen deliver a stunning performance - a perfect parody of the old West. Great Entertainment!
