Fixed it for me.
The inner tube is a classic story, where in normal use you never even see it, but when you have a problem, it's a calamity.
My very old wheels had gentle slow punctures. I pumped them up, in a week they were too flat to work. So I pumped them up again. Testing the tubes in a bucket of water showed no bubbles, but still they went flat.
New tubes, some weeks ago, still ROCK HARD.
Earlier tubes had straight valves and were hard to attach the pump. New tubes, bent valve really works !
