Brother PQ-1500SL
6 of 6 found this helpful This machine is a simple straight stitch machine. It does that very well. I have used it to stitch a jelly roll quilt top and add binding to two quilts. It comes with a number of feet including a walking foot. This is the first time I have used a walking foot and it worked great for me. There is a caution on the walking foot to only use it at 70% maximum sewing speed. The PQ-1500SL will sew at 1500 stitches per min so the 70% limitation isn't a problem. I works great. I bought a 1/4" quilting foot separately which is great, however the machine came with an assortment of feet that can be used. The machine also came with a large plastic table attachment, and that is a big help. I used the machine on a dining table and spread the quilt out on the table while binding. With the plastic table attachment I didn't experience any tugging or pulling the stitching off track. ( I am a total beginner). However, I was very happy with the results compared to my other sewing machine.
The machine has a simple bobbin winder that works just fine. No problems with that. The bobbin is an L size?, slightly bigger than my other small brother machine. The bobbin setup looks very much like my HQ long arm bobbin setup, just scaled down a bit in size. The threading is old fashion, except it does have a mechanism that threads, or actually pulls, the thread through the eye of the needle. That's very much appreciated. The machine has an LED light, a thread cutting button, and a reverse lever for back stitching. So far the machine has worked flawlessly. My girlfriend likes the machine also, she's much more experienced than I am at sewing and has a babylock and a old bernina.
I haven't used the knee lift mechanism yet, not sure I really need too. Finally there are some extra attachments for adding a fence for aligning material up against when sewing. I don't know how that works, don't really care at this point. There aren't any directions for those accessories. Anyway I am very pleased with the sewing machine and I highly recommend it for simple straight sewing. If that is what you are looking for, this machine should be perfect.
