Paul McCartney and Wings - Rockshow (DVD, 2013)
    03 Feb, 2016
    Best Wings recordings ever
Negatives: I don't like the packaging. Eco-friendly and all, but I don't like slip-in, cardboard sleeves. Will eventually scratch the disc. Boo. Positives: Jimmy McCulloch. Lead Guitar. Period. If anything, that is the sole reason to own this. I never have, and never will, hear any better versions of the Wings songs than these. The band is tight, props to all, but the bright, and flowing, compliments Jimmy adds to the songs is the "missing" Wings edge. Truely brilliant. Always on the attack, while never trying to overshadow the Captain (Sir Paul:). Respectful, but soul-clinching, in a manner only comparable to the likes of David Gilmour. And the video/sound quality is "Above Par!" when comparing "digitized"-analog transfers from 70's videotape technology. A major upgrade over my old Beta tape version, lol. Highly Recommend! Even on simple DVD. Blu-Ray may even be better.. I will refrain from waxing poetic on the significance of this '76 Tour on future big Arena Rock shows, but suffice to say it set the standard. Soon to be passed by the likes of Pink Floyd, Rush, and Kiss, Best Wings ever. God Save The King :))
The Police - Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out (DVD, 2006)

    For What It's Worth
Let's get right to the point...Buy It! There ya go. The final piece in the Around the World/Live/Super-8 video triumvirate for any Police fan! Similar to Van Halen, The Cars, The Doors, and Jimi Hendrix...5-6 years was the lifespan for The Police. And they packed it all in. Although not as good as the book by Copeland, this is a fun dvd! Glad I own it. Having said that, this enjoyable "must" for any Police fan, was surprisingly hard to watch at times. The epilectic nature of a Super-8 handheld could surely have benifited from some 2K video "image stabilization". For a self-professed Soundtrack Composer, deep in the Hollywood field of post-production video nowadays (Stewart)...I think this could have been easier on the eyes while still remaining raw. I began to long for a simple music-video, if only to give my eyes a rest for a few minutes. , Very poor video production (left wondering why?), but excellent raw footage! Again, I recommend it! But in 2006...I think this could have been benefitted from some viewer-friendly "stabilization technology". I was a blue-mohawked Punk in '87. I appreciate "raw". But not, epilectic. So, for what it's worth...

    Droll
The video clarity doesn't make up for the negativity. I'd like so much for the characters to shine as they always had, but it just doesn't happen. What was once edgy and kept us on our toes, now seems forced and...droll. Cast changes aside, most are still in tact, it just doesn't feel right. Case in point...Helen, now portrayed by Billingham, has become more schoolmarm than soulmate. "Are You Being Served, Again" for what it's worth, felt like a continuation. This doesn't. Seasons 1-3 Great and Small are some of BBC's finest moments ever! But unfortunately, it ends there. The late 80's regathering, starting with Season 4...just aren't fun anymore. Proceed with caution.
