Thinking about buying? Read this.
1 of 1 found this helpful Anyone have a photo of the connections to the outside unit?
The instructions are... confusing.
Addendum : Finally figured out the wiring connections. Works. Well. Dead quiet. Cools a 15x15 room (with 9 foot ceilings) no problem, even when it's pushing 100 degrees & 100% humidity outside.
I did a DIY install. May be a little much for a beginner, but if your good enough to follow the guys on PBS's "This Old House" (and understand what they're saying) you'll should be okay.
I was a little confused with the wiring at first, for some reason I thought it plugged into a regular 110 outlet through the indoor part. It does not. You'll have to run 30 amp wiring (and a 30 amp breaker) to your electrical panel, and add a weather proof cut off box outside by your unit (USA building codes). And run all your outside wiring through shielding.
The inside unit gets it power from the outside part.
For some reason I was expecting about the same noise levels and air flow as a 12,000 btu window unit. It's nothing like that. As I mentioned the inside unit is amazing quiet, and the airflow is much less than what you would get from an equivalent window unit. But it DOES get the job done just fine, and the noise levels (or a lack thereof) is simply amazing.
So now you know what to expect. Hope this helps you out, wish I could have read a review like this BEFORE I bought the thing. Would have made the install go a lot quicker.
As is probably took me 5-6 hours to install the first one, the second one should take about 1 hour once you know what your doing.

READ THIS BEFORE BUYING
9 of 10 found this helpful I recently ordered two of these units and installed them in my home.
First of all another reviewer posted that this is a 110/115v unit. This is incorrect. This item is a 220v and requires a 30A double breaker and appropriate wiring.
Power runs from your breaker box to the INSIDE (blower). The blower then feeds power to the OUTSIDE part (the compressor) through an included power cable.
Installation is pretty straight forward. Install the plug in your house. Hook up power to the blower. Drill a hole in the wall, and run the copper tubing and the included power cord to the compressor outside. Make sure the connections on the copper tubing are tight, then open the valves connected to the copper tubing on the compressor.
The compressor is pre-charged with the correct amount of refrigerant.
That's pretty well much it in a nutshell. Turn it on, let it run for a few minutes while checking for leaks where you connected the copper tubing by squirting soapy water on the connections and checking for air bubbles. Tighten at need. Make sure and check out your local building codes, you will probably need to install a cut-off box near the compressor.
Comes with a remote control (Celsius only).
The unit itself is very quiet, and cools a 250 square foot room without any problem.
The inside blower makes about as much noise as on of those $20 box fans set on low. The outside compressor is only a tiny bit louder.
Works like a charm. Is VERY quiet. Cools a 18x15 foot room (with 9 foot ceilings) just like it should.
I've only had them for about a week, but they are working perfectly and I'm very happy with my purchase. I of course have no idea what it's going to do to my power bill, but I'll take the time to update this review in a few weeks if anybody asks.
