Churchill & The Generals - DVD
19 Apr, 2017
Well worth watching!
Although the Generals were all played by actors (as was Churchill) they were so convincing that I soon forgot that they were not the characters they were portraying! I have no reason to doubt the historical accuracy of the events they were portraying - but I am not a quality historian . . . .
They Shall Not Grow Old [2018] (DVD) Peter Jackson

The present title sums up the background to the film - but a sub-title referring to the 1914-18 war might be helpful.
The way the cine films ( one hundred years old!) of the First World War are brought to life is amazing. The scratches are removed as if by magic, colour is added and lip sync dialogue seems extraordinary. I watched an interview with the maker of the film that added lots of useful background information. If you watch it on DVD have a look at this extra feature FIRST, then see the film itself.

An ideal small book to pass on to those who have been bereaved.
This is an excellent small book that I have given away many times to people who have recently been bereaved. It is published by Lion and has passed through many editions. The one illustrated (that I bought recently via eBay) is hardback and has some beautiful colour photographs included. It is no long in print but the current edition, in paperback without any pictures (but £1 cheaper!), is still excellent. The small book is written from a Christian perspective but it does so with tact and sympathy. It traces the five stages of grief that we generally pass through following the death of a family member or close friend. I commend the book to you – and would encourage Lion Publishing to produce again their hard back illustrated edition!
