The Business
1 of 1 found this helpful A good British film charting the history of early British gangsters based in Spain, who used the country to traffic cannabis and coke to the Uk where it's was sold for vast profits. It also demonstrates how Spanish officials turned a blind eye to British criminality as it contributed to the Spanish economy in the 70/80s causing Spain to become a haven for the British gangster who wanted to continue their criminal enterprises whilst indulging in sand sea and sangria in Spain, uninhibited by the actions of law enforcement. The storyline is much closer to the truth than many viewers will realise. The gang featured, led by actor Tamar Hussain lose their fortune as they indulged in their own product, a cardinal sin and therefore their empire spiralled out of control, which was the path that many gangsters suffered in the late 70's early 80's. What followed next were the more sophisticated and disciplined gangsters who saw it as a business rather than a lifestyle and they still exist today. This movie has an excellent sound track and is probably the best movie in which actor Tamar Hussain has had a lead role. Since The Business he has popped up in a number of British gangster movies which have failed to impress save for Layer Cake in which he had a minor role. Danny Dyers role as the lost English youth trying to find his way in life but falling in with Hussain is relatively convincing and realistic as it's demonstrates Dyer acting ability prior to his phase of presenting Britains underworld as likeable rogues, which was probably inspired by his role in this movie. A relatively fun easy to watch movie that could have easily had a sequel developing the role of the characters and the history of international drug trafficking. I would recommend that if you watch this film you later watch Layer Cake, in which Daniel Craig demonstrates the points I make in this review.
