Admirable Quality for a Consumer Unit
1 of 1 found this helpful I got this unit for my dad, who is confined most of the time to a nursing care room. He's someone who has all his life appreciated a good audio system. So I set him up with *all* of his CDs ripped into this unit, and let him use my Sennheiser HD650 headphones. He loves it! I have to say, for classical music, it's a nice improvement to have uncompressed audio at your fingertips.
I was able to rip his CDs as wav files into a separate iTunes directory, and then using the HAP Music Transfer software, import the music from that directory into the unit. There may be copy-protection issues. But not for his classical music CDs. And keep in mind that you can't rip SA CDs at other than 44.1 kHz/16bit resolution. However, the nice thing about a unit like this, is that you can take downloaded files of higher resolution and wirelessly transfer them right into the unit.
After you transfer music to the device, you can plug the unit into your computer with the provided network cable, and (inside the hard drive on the HAP-S1) move all of that music from the "imported" folder to the main directory. I did that so it would be easy to identify any newly imported tracks. But, all music on the HAP-S1 drive is accessible, regardless.
Haven't tried the 40W per channel speaker outputs.
I got an earlier model of this unit for a good price, and all in all have been very happy with it.

Excellent Studio/Live Recording Mic
These mics are very close to the larger MKH 40's, both excellent microphones! I've used these for everything from vocals to string ensembles in live settings.

One of the Best Directional Condensers!
These are extremely accurate mics, and good for less than ideal rooms.
