Starship Troopers
1 of 1 found this helpful While there were many mixed reviews and feelings about this classic piece of film, some despising it as an action film with no point, others as a failed attempt at a comedy, i enjoyed starship troopers for two reasons.
The first was the action. Its everything we have come to expect from science fiction - large guns, larger alien monsters and hapless grunts being torn in two. The second reason is the political undertones. Blatant suggestions of the German nazi establishment are visible, with intelligence division wearing trenchcoats and heavy propaganda usage. Perhaps the best portrayal of this is the opening scene of the film, where a live news report of an arachnid planet invasion (supposedly going well) sees the reporter torn in two by an arachnid warrior, shortly before the cameraman himself is dismembered likewise.
All in all, a very funny, very violent and thought provoking film

Godsmack - Faceless - as good as it gets
2 of 2 found this helpful I first discovered Godsmack when playing Prince of Persia, Warrior Within. I loved the dark atmospheric soundtrack, a lot of which was done by Godsmack. after reading a bit more, i discovered that one of the songs on this album had been used in that game and so i decided to buy it. After buying it off ebay for a fraction of the rrp, i discovered an album of metal quite like no other in my collection. the atmospheric, almost claustrophobic guitar riffs, combined with Sully Erna's dark vocals really do make for an astonishing album, offering up a surprising mix of aggression, regret and hope. The title track, facless, comes after a very similar track called changes, leading to a lot of confusion between the two songs. the album sustains its pace very well until tracks 7 and 8, where it all starts to seem a bit samey. however, track 9, "I Am" returns to the pace of the first few songs, picking up in both clever lyrics and threatening riffs. the album then tails off to a peacefull ending, with the last track "Serenity" cooling down, with a sense of tranquility - a rare sight in this album. The two live tracks at the end of the album really do let this album down, but on the strength of the studio tracks carry this to earn a 4/5. If you are into metal and rock, this album is a must have.
