Cracking CD you won't be disappointed
I wanted a good introduction to Luke Kelly's works, and thought for this price I was taking a bit of a risk. But in this case taking a risk paid off. This is a wonderful 2 CD collection, without a single dud on it.
The quality of the recordings is for the most part excellent, and you can really hear and appreciate Kelly's wonderful voice and mastery of the material. I'm intending singing some of these songs at folk clubs and this collection is perfect for "learning from the master".
The CD set provides over 112 minutes of playing time for less than the price of pint!

Disappointing
There must be better collections of Ewan Maccoll's, I was expecting the man himself to be singing the songs, but a fair chunk of them are sung by Peggy Seeger.
The songs themselves include a few classics, but some of them are just poor songs. "Just the tax for me" is a 46 second rant against the Poll Tax, for example, unmelodic and uninteresting. Some others are protest songs too, with one thing in common: they are not very good.
Fortunately the CD is very cheap, so I guess you get what you pay for. In this case, a bundle of songs that - with a very few memorable exceptions - have you reaching for the "stop" button.
