Wirquin replacement button.
I'm not so keen on the valve itself. Our original button failed after 10 years and this is a perfect replacement. Much easier than replacing the whole lot!

Working well so far
After storing my Sony deck for some years I decided to play some old tapes. Unfortunately all I could do was hear some whirring and clicking. Although the door opened, no other features worked.
To complete the repair, the Sony repair manual is invaluable and goes through the process step by step.
The repair involved opening the case, unscrewing the transport and unplugging it from the circuit boards. The thick belt drives the flywheel - the existing belt was a lump of oddly melted goo. I had to clean it off with a cotton buds and isopropyl alcohol. This only involved removing the first board at the back of the transport. The smaller, thinner drive belt change was also required. Although the original looked OK, it was stretched and useless. To replace I had to take off the door and the LED plate that illuminates the tape reels, then a coffee behind that drives the spools, then remove both boards that hold the motors at the back. Re assembling was a matter of lining various cogs up following the manual instructions. Worked first time!
