Essential iPhonography tool
At this price I wasn't too sure what to expect. Just 12 months ago I had looked at similar options for around £500. When it arrived it was very well boxed and presented and it was very obvious how to put it together, though the manual also is self explanatory.
I had read about kinks in the mid rail position as the train passes by the rail joint, but in practical terms I haven't seen anything negative happen on the footage. It is very smooth.
Manual operation is a breeze.
My only gripe is that a few added faster travel settings would make this more versatile as the highest speed setting is still quite slow. Maybe this is the only limitation I can see at the moment.
Verdict: Bite their hand off before they dissapear!!!

Good Old MSX
I've had these machines since their inception in the mid 80s.
Some advertise this computer as "extremely rare" but if you do an Ebay search over a week they turn up often.
The are various models, the most common in the UK being the CX5m and CX5mII/128
The sound generator is identical to the Yamaha FB01 FM synth module, which if you are looking for that sound can be had for around £60, so don't spend silly money on a CX5MII/128 (120+) or an old MSX computer for the sound, it can be had a lot cheaper and will respond to realtime CC via MIDI, unlike any of Cx5's.

Unique gem amongst the analogue and tape emulations delays
1 of 1 found this helpful Delays and echo pedals have been a staple tools for musicians. The guitar pedal market, like the Eurorack market, has exploded over the last couple of years affording musicians of all levels fantastic original and well conceived effects units. BBD delays, Oil can reverbs, spring reverbs have become more common place and there are now many choices and price levels.
The Digitech Obscura Altered Delay is amongst the best I have tried. I own several dedicated delay devices including the Strymon El Capistan, Deco, Eventide Timefactor, Fairfield Meet Maude and the incredible Tonal Recall. I also use vintage BBD delay units and real tape delay. 1/4 inch and cassette. These choices aren't random. They were all bought on extensive research, trying, listening for the magic inside them and of course, the overall quality of design and manufacture.
The Obscura is digital, but don't let this put you off. We are living in the era of very, very accurate modelling of analogue processes. The Obscura tape echo is a faithful emulation of the variability of speed, flux, crinkle found on old tapes. The BBD emulation of anchored feedback around a sweet spot set of frequencies nearly, very nearly catches the singing feedback found on real BBD devices such as the Fairfield and vintage Teisco.
Finally the price. Its a silly price for the amount of tweaking afforded by this little box. Get one before they change their mind.
