Forbidden Ground DVD (2013) Johan Earl ***NEW***

Good battle scenes.
The battle scenes were very poignant and gave an insight into trench warfare, with all its terror, and futility. I found the romantic sub plot unlikely and unfeasible however, and that rather ruined it as a potential portrait of life on the Front Line, although it did produce tension. “Passchendaele” remains above the rest.

Any cricket lover would enjoy this book, & would make a lovely gift.
I have always been fascinated by the colorful characters that litter Cricket's history. This book contains some lesser known characters along with the 'household name' variety. The biography's are reasonably brief, in 'vignette style', but also capture the essence of the person delightfully. Some have sent me Googling (no pun intended!)for further information. A wide range of cricketing people are included in what I would like to think is Volume One of a number of similar volumes. A book to keep by the bedside, browse, or read from cover to cover. However you choose to read this book you are sure to enjoy the greater part of it. Roy P.

The story of a hero's tragically brief life.
A beautiful book about a man who left, as a legacy, a model of how to live the life of a hero. Excerpts from Hedley's diaries provide us with tantalising glimpses of his own thoughts. His greatness as a cricketer almost becomes lost in the shadow of his character. To read the account of his untimely death without a sense of profound sadness, even so long after the event, is impossible. A glowing testimonial to a true Hero.
