Everything Music Lovers Need In A Small, Powerful Package
Hot damn where have you been hiding? Call me out of the loop, but I didn't know until very recently that Sony even made media players along the lines of an "MP3 player". Having been a faithful user of iRiver media players from years past, I've come to appreciate the heftiness of a dedicated music player. What better way to enter the fray than with an update of the beloved Walkman cassette/CD players of decades past? The A-17 is a true beauty. It is super light and thin, weighing close to nothing. The sound quality is superb and features some deep customization to allow tweaking of output. The menu and navigation system are clear-cut and direct (A directional pad is the name of the game, no inaccurate touch screen to lament here.) The screen is small but sharp, providing an adequate but not overt visual experience. On top of all that, the A-17 has massive storage potential, with 64 GB built-in along with another 64 via microSD card. And yes, the battery life is good enough to handle even a very long road trip in the car.
There's so much more I could say about why I love the A-17, but then I'd have to write an essay for real. Apparently Sony discontinued the A-17 along with other similar models, and if true, was likely due to the dominance of the smart phone over all things mobile. If you are a music lover who can appreciate a dedicated device and all it has to offer over a "jack of all trades" smart phone, snatch one of these up while you can. I'm glad I did
