Great sound quality, also a brilliant introduction to early piano blues recordings.

Like most Rough Guides, the mastering is absolutely A1 here. All these tracks are well known piano blues classics from the golden era, but it's still a worthwhile purchase because of the superior sound quality. Leaving that aside, for less experienced collectors this is a tremendous introduction to a neglected aspect of early blues recordings. Today's rock "legends" keep banging on about the Delta blues and Robert Johnson, but the real story is inevitably more complex. With this CD you have an aural snapshot of the broader diversity of African-American music from this seminal period.

An excellent collection of Fados from Coimbra

This 2 CD collection of Fados from Coimbra is on the Spanish Movieplay label. A quick look at Rough Guide's first wonderful Fado collection and you can see that most of the tracks were taken from Movieplay recordings - in fact one or two tracks are on this 2 CD double. Nice slipcase, excellent booklet.
