Sacred Landscapes of the Celts
I theroughly enjoyed this book because it gave you a detailed look and understanding of how ancient to modern Celts view the landscape and its connection with the ancient and modern religion.
It explained why certain trees were held sacred and why these trees were once considered the center on older towns. Why modern caves and mountains were dedicated to modern saints and angles all because they were orginally deadicated to ancient goddesses and gods, why sacred wells and rivers were originally dedicated to ancient goddesses. Most of all it helps explaine why old aspects of the "Old Religion" are still found in the modern Roman Catholic religion and why it still occures today.
What you do learn is that Roman Catholic Christianity was a very adaptible religion and because it was adaptible I feel it has continued to survived today.
Like every thing in this world Nothing IS as it seems, and this is especially true of religion and Celtic Sacred Landscapes. It explaines much of what you thought you knew and much more of what you did not know.
If mythology, religion, Druidism, Celtic ideas and landscapes interest you and becoming more aware of this kind of information then this is the book for you.
