Jethro Tull Aqualung - 40th Anniversary Steven Wilson remixes 2-CDs
I was 16 when Aqualung came out and it's been a favourite listen to this day. Great songs and musicianship, with Martin Barre's guitar playing being outstanding. I have the 25th anniversary edition on CD but was interested to hear what differences there might be on this remix, plus get the bonus tracks. The Steven Wilson remixes are a significant sonic improvement over the 25th anniv. edition I have. Elements of lower mixed, just audible music, on the 25th are brought forward into the 40th mix, with everything being cleaner and crisper. This leads to a different listening experience, especially if you already know the album well. Compare especially the guitar solo on Wind Up where differences are very noticeable, with muddy background soloing having become far clearer and more prominent in the mix. I like this version a lot and sound quality, remixes and bonus tracks make it all very good value as far as I am concerned. But it does sound different from the original mix in places and if you prefer the original, then that is of course your prerogative. I am enjoying both versions, but the better sound quality of the remixes would get my vote if I could only keep one version.
