A GOTHIC HORROR CLASSIC.
The necessity for lurid titles to sell films in the 1950s - 1970s may mean excellent films such as this are overlooked as just another horror trash B-movie. This film however is an excellent gothic horror/thriller based on "Casting the Runes" by ghost story supremo M.R.James. Don't be put off by the corny humourous situation on the plane early on, the story becomes more serious and suspenseful as it builds. This is an absolute classic, watch it all through and enjoy.

EXCELLENT ACCURATE TO PERIOD DEFINITIVE VERSION OF ELIOT'S DRAMA
Superb TV adaptation from the days when no expense was spared on productions of period classics.
Fine actors, costumes and specially composed music for full orchestra plus fabulous accurate historic settings, including shutting down part of Stamford for two weeks for filming and removing all modern features from the streets and buildings etc. It would be difficult to beat this as the definitive version of George Eliot's novel; far superior to today's ridiculous box-ticking nonsense that ruins period dramas.
