Does the job perfectly

This is a high quality product which does exactly what it says on the tin. It's very easy to use and ergonomic - just plug it in, insert the drive and switch it on. Access to the drive is fast and reliable. When finished, unmount the drive on the PC, turn it off and physically remove the drive using the handy eject lever. The only minor criticism is with the aesthetics - they have used very shiny plastic on the top, including the drive flap, and this is getting scratched ater only a handful of drive insertions. A more conventional textured finish would be better here.

Be cautious about buying this second hand!

If you are buying this new, it should be perfectly OK, as you will receive everything in the picture, but if buying secondhand, you are likely to only receive the electrode itself, which poses a problem... Because of the (poor) way the assembly is designed, you have to thread the wire through a grommet, and then fit it into the plug that also carries the earth lead. This is why new units come with this connector and earth lead as a separate item. Unfortunately, it is not possible to remove an existing wire from the connector without special tooling (and without such tooling, it is not possible to remove it without damaging the housing), so I had to resort to cutting the wires, soldering them together and covering with heatshrink tubing - this is not something most people would be able to do. Also, if buying secondhand, you are unlikely to receive the replacement sealing washer, and the old one is likely to be a bit knackered, having been compressed against the boiler housing for many years. So if you try to re-use it, it may end up deteriorating or even disintegrating, which may result in a poor seal to the boiler housing, and the risk of a (very slight) leak (but unlikely to be an issue, given that the boiler is negatively pressured). So I would definitely advise buying this as a new item.

Overall a great product

Overall, a great product, and it seems to work well. My only slight gripes: * Mains cord is a bit short at around 1m long * Non-UV stabilised plastic on plampholder and starter holders - they glow a nice blue in the UV light. This means they will turn yellow and may eventually deteriorate. If you are switching this on and off frequently, I would recommend upgrading the starters to electronic ones (search for Multipulse UM2) This will massively prolong the tube life, as it gives a smooth, soft preheat to the lamps.
