True to the Film and Worthy of Praise
Nearly identical to the original film. It is well written, highly descriptive, and suspenseful, with some added touches of humor. Since the film is so vivid in the imagination of movie-goers for generations, there is no real doubt as to how this sad story plays out. However, I feel it does a very good job of making the reader feel the sorrow of Kong and his ultimate demise. While the film is considered a classic and a special effects wonder, the novel stands alone as a companion piece worthy of praise. Even if you have seen the original film many times and the remakes--as I have-- it's well worth the time to read this novel. Few surprises, but a nice piece of mid-20th Century writing nonetheless. Highly recommended.

A 20th Century Film With A 21st Century Look
This is a classic--brought up repeatedly in the book and movie "Zodiac". Quick paced and well acted with a small cast, the story is basic but compelling. Joel Mcrea and Fay Wray are perfect for the roles they play as the hunted prey on a remote island. Filmed at the same time of the legendary "King Kong" and using the same sets, this is 1930's film making at its best. This particular DVD set gives viewers the option of the original release in black and white and another disc in color. Many of the colorized films taken from original black and white are less than stellar--but not this one. The color version on the film is stunning. A god way to pass the time on a late Saturday night with a classic--only now in brilliant color! See it again for the first time.
