One huge flaw keeps this from being perfect
My original Shield remote was killed by a visiting toddler. For a while I was using one or other bluetooth remote, but every one of those was very inconsistent about waking my box up or losing its pairing with the box, forcing me to use a phone to reconnect.
So I got a new Shield remote.
The good: It's a little bigger and it has a distinctive shape. It absolutely works the instant I start pressing buttons. It doesn't have the idiotic touch-based volume slider my old one.
The bad: OH DEAR SWEET JESUS I HATE THE NETFLIX BUTTON. One accidental press and I'm looking at long seconds for Netflix to load. Meanwhile, I'm frantically pressing the Home button so I can get back to whatever I was actually doing (which 100% of the time was not Netflix) and there's no tool built in to the Shield to fix it. I can buy a $10 app from the Play Store to remap that button but why should I have to?
Overall it's a better remote than the original one - which was a 2/5 because of the volume slider, but at least the old remote could turn that functionality off, but since Netflix is probably the least used of my streaming subscriptions, the last thing it needs is a dedicated button.

Fantastic Value.
2 of 2 found this helpful I'm glad to be back on a 6.1" phone after having a larger 6.4" one. Battery life here is good enough for all day, probably more if I didn't use Snapchat.
I don't like that Facebook is marked as a system app and I'm mildly annoyed that the volume controls were moved to the sides of the phone rather than the back like other LG phones I have. I also wish the fingerprint sensor were a button, as I'm used to that.
Otherwise, I'm very happy with this device.
