If you've become aware of Chimpanzees and Bonobos this book adds greater understanding of how comparatively evolved the Bonobos are. Good read.

If you're interested in the Darwinian concept of human evolution from apes to humans this book indicates to steps along that path. The mental capabilities of Kanzi are only restricted by the formation of his still ape-like hands that restrict his dexterity. The information of the Bonobo's ability to 'cross-breed' with other apes reveals how the human genetic pool could have been gradually created. Although not mentioned in this book Chimpanzees can't swim and don't like water. On the other hand Kanzi's Bonobo relatives live near rivers, bathe and feed in them. It's possible that evidence of the intelligence displayed by Kanzi and recorded in this book have simply been washed away. Kanzi shows that there is such intelligent depth and reasoning behind those big brown eyes.
