Good pencils but broken leads

At first everything was fine. But then when the pencils went blunt and when I sharpened them the lead kept falling out. This happened continuously until the pencils were short. No matter how carefully I sharpened them the lead would fall out and I would have to start again. Each bit that came off was the same size and I got the impression that on some of the pencils the lead was broken the whole was down.
