Great Train Crimes: Murder and Robbery on the Rail... by Jonathan Oates Hardback

Great Train Crimes: Murder and Robbery on the Railways (in the UK)
Recent (2010), well written and informative anthology of notorious crimes from UK railway history (1855 to 2008). If you enjoyed the TV series "Railway Murders" then I can reccommend this book.

Good collection of Jennifer Warnes' early recordings
Jennifer Warnes is probably underrated in the UK, being the owner of a fine/warm voice. She is possibly best known for her duets with Joe Cocker (Up Where We Belong), Bill Medley (I've Had The Time of My Life - outside the scope of this collection) and her work with L. Cohen (listen to the Famous Blue Raincoat album). Warnes is a versatile artist, an intuitive and instinctive interpreter of other writer's songs, but also an OK songwriter herself. Excellent release by Raven Records (Australia), and highly recommended. A second compilation covering 1984 to 2010 would be welcome.

Cultural history of the neutral Irish Free State during WW2
Cultural history of the Irish Free State during World War 2. Covers Ireland's leader (de Valera) paying his condolences, at the German embassy in Dublin, after Hitler died. Neutrality was a difficult position for the irish people, and probably cost them regarding any rebuilding/ improvement aid under the post-war Marshall Plan. They certainly missed out on any GI spending such as seen in the UK's Northern Ireland.
