About

Hi!! I'm relatively new to eBay, but I'm addicted... more as a seller now, though! Which is always good. I've bought and sold an awful lot of junk, and plan on selling more!

The first of the batch... a compelling buy.
Alpine have a knack of being slightly ahead of the curve, as far as in-car audio goes. When the iDA-X001 was released, this was no different. Here we had the first ever head unit to feature not only the KCE 422i 'Full Speed' (hahahaha) connection, but also a true full speed USB connection. The difference between the two is that the 422i connection is analogue, where the music is played on the iPod and then sent to the head unit... whereas the new USB digital connection uses the files from the iPod and plays them back via the head unit. Very cool. However... one nasty little setback is that you cannot use Apple's provided iPod USB lead with the USB extension on the back of the head unit, it has to be Alpine's dedicated cable. Which is a cool £20 if you don't have it... gulp. Sound quality... it's an Alpine. I tested my setup through some Fusion 16.5cm components & Infinity Reference 6x9s. Crisp and clear right the way up the register. Effective EQ, intuitive to use as well. I tested it with a variety of genres, and it handled them all beautifully. Very easy to install, and they include several options with the leads on the back- such as the option to dim the stereo when you switch your lights on. There are more, but I can't remember. Detachable faceplate always a welcome addition. In summary, well worth the buy. Just check that everything is included to save disappointment and a second mortgage for Alpine's extraordinarily expensive add-ons and cables.

Continuing the underdog's choice.
I have to say, American Dad inspires me. It's a real gem of a programme that I'm glad I discovered. Season 2 is a great continuation of Season 1, but with a few minor differences. Roger gets suitably vicious, Steve gets more gullible, Hayley gets more righteous and Stan & Francine continue in their rut. It's an excellent season which I won't say too much on (I don't want to give it away), and well worth the money. However, Season 3 is even better...

Superb. In all aspects!
Apple have consistently made aesthetically pleasing yet fantastically performing products. For as long as I have used them, they have always offered an excellent, intuitive interface, a beautiful design, fantastic stability and lightning fast performance that belies their spec sheet. The Mac Pro is no different from my prior experiences. I ordered the 2.66GHz Quad Core model- the first one released if I remember rightly- used from an eBayer, which is actually one of the first ones released. It came with 4 hard drive bays, 8 memory slots, 2 optical drive slots, 4 PCI card slots, 2 FireWire 800 ports, 2 FireWire 400 ports and 5 USB 2.0 ports. One of each FireWire and 2 of the USB ports are available from the front of the Mac Pro, allowing you to connect drives quickly and easily if you want to remove them again straight away. It also supports dual monitor usage, thanks to 2 DVI-I slots. This allows you to run an analogue signal if you want, thanks to the extra 4 pins in a DVI-I monitor plug. The computer doesn't come with AirPort as standard, which is a little cheap on such an expensive machine, but cards are easily picked up for a relatively small amount. Likewise, extra hard drives from Apple are ruinously expensive, but can be picked up very cheaply from eBay- you'll pay around £35 for a relatively decent size. I bought this primarily for music, as I didn't want to touch a Windows machine with a bargepole. I'd heard nothing but how crap Vista was with Pro Tools, and having used Pro Tools on Macs for a few years I didn't really want to downgrade. So I took the plunge to get this. I'm amazed at how well these machines cope with running Pro Tools HD, which is a pretty intense program. Everything is dealt with quickly and quietly (very quiet fans and Quad Core processors for you...), and there are never any hitches when running them. No clicks, pops or buzzes. Every piece of hardware I've used with it is accepted quietly and used to its greatest potential. I really like how this is kind of a PC take on a Mac. I like being able to expand my hard drives quickly and easily (literally pull out an old one and drop a new one in), and it's essential for music- run a program from one disk and record onto another. I love how easy it is to expand the RAM, and how easy it is to fit AirPort Extreme. It's almost like My First Computer by Tomy- everything is so easy and hassle-free. I've installed extra RAM on a Mac mini, and that was an absolute bitch. I don't think I'd even bother trying to change a hard drive on one of those. Same goes for an iMac- you're asking for trouble if you want to upgrade one of those bad-boys. Overall, the Mac Pro is easy to maintain, easy to upgrade, quiet, fast, beautiful, and extremely reliable. A must for anyone considering graphic design, video editing or serious music editing in the future. I won't discuss the OS in this review because it doesn't pertain to the computer specifically- that's changeable.
