Waterproofs and cuts heatloss through evaporation
I have bought this water sealant a few times now, to proof the exterior of my 160 year old sandstone/whinstone house. It does a great job of repelling water - walls that would have previously taken days to dry out after a rainfall now dry much more quickly. This seems to have improved the thermal retention of the house too (albeit marginally). I guess less water to evaporate from the stone means less energy disappearing into the atmosphere.
I'd been skeptical about how well such a simple thing would work, but it does seem to. I have one wall with harling/pebbledash on it - I haven't tried to waterproof that, as I'm conscious that any water which got to the inside of this might not be able to get back out. I'm not concerned about the same thing with the stonework. Just make sure the stone isn't waterlogged when you first put it on, or you could trap moisture which will expand in freezing tempratures and could damage the surface of the stonework.

Have bought before, will buy again
1 of 1 found this helpful This really makes a difference on porous stone like sandstone, or in mortar joints. By keeping the stone drier it also seems to slow the return of moss, which is a problem where I am.
