1st for Tailored Sound - 1st for Highly Readable Lit Display - 1st for Ease of Daily Use
1 of 1 found this helpful I have built, dismantled and listened to a wide variety of radios in 40 years. Some cheap, some pricey, IMHO the most important selection criteria is the sound. (Why else did you buy it? but we buy via the 'net, sound unheard!) The DR1404G has good Equaliser settings to shape the sound to suit most folk. The second criteria, is an easy to read display for night & day use. The DR1404G display is blue and large and kind to older eyes. At night it's not a nuisance, it can be switched off! Thirdly, today's DAB radios can look as complex as a rocket for Jupiter! Confusing layout of controls with very small buttons and even smaller function labels. Not on the DR1404G. Buttons are carefully spaced and labels large. Someone gave quite some thought to these key design features on this radio. Well done Tesco. A bonus feature is a signal strength indicator at the top left of display so you can place the radio in the best position for high quality DAB and FM sound. You can clearly see how rain affects DAB signal strength creating distorted sound 'burbling' - clearly not the fault of the radio though. Moving the set often helps. Overall do try out this radio. It performs very very well and is excellent value.
